The Montreux Jazz Festival library is the largest testimony of live music recorded on the same stage, both in audio and video, for the past 44 years (more than 4’000 bands among others were filmed in Montreux resulting in 10’000 recording tapes).
Montreux Sounds SA, founded in 1973 by Claude Nobs and owner of the Montreux Jazz Festival archives has also acquired a large collection of television footage for worldwide use. The 1991, 1992, 1993, 1997 and 2002 to 2010 editions of the festival were recorded in High Definition TV. With permission from the artists and their record companies, some of the performances are being released on DVD, CD, MP3 and Blu-ray. Eagle Rock’s “Live at Montreux” series debuted in November 2004 and has already captured 80 major artists including shows dating back to the 1960s.
Despite the use of the best state of the art technologies at the time of each recording, there is urgency for their safeguard. Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) and Montreux Sounds have therefore joined forces to create a unique and first of a kind, high resolution digital archive of the Montreux Jazz Festivals.
Since 1975, the Montreux Video Studio has been running the Warner Music Group duplication center of broadcast video clips in Montreux ditributing Warner Music promotion videos for more than 40 countries.
